Who is responsible

Marktgram is a classifieds marketplace. The operator named at the end of this page is responsible for the processing described here. We apply the Swiss Federal Act on Data Protection and, where it applies to you, the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

What we collect

We only collect what the service needs.

  • Account: e-mail address, password (stored only as a hash by our authentication provider), display name, country, language, account type and, for companies, company name, website and description. An avatar is optional.
  • Listings: title, description, price, category details, photos, contact details you choose to publish and the location you enter.
  • Messages: the text messages you exchange with other members through Marktgram chat.
  • Activity: favourites, reports you file, sellers you hide and the status of your listings.
  • Buyer profile (optional): the search preferences you enter, such as budget, timing and wishes. It is visible to a seller only if you switch on sharing, and only for sellers you message. Your e-mail address and phone number are never shared through it.
  • Marketing consent (optional): whether you agreed to receive news from us. It is off unless you switch it on, and you can switch it off at any time in your account.
  • Technical data: IP address and basic request data in server logs, used for security and to keep the service running.

Location data

For some categories you can add a location. The exact address you enter is stored separately and is not shown publicly. By default the public listing page only shows an approximate area on a map, computed from a coarse grid, so the circle never points at the exact address.

You choose the privacy mode per listing: approximate area, exact address on request, or hidden. With “exact on request”, an interested member can send you a request. The exact location is shared with that member only after you approve it. Our staff can see exact locations when this is needed to review a listing or handle a report.

Why we use your data

We use your data to:

  • run your account, publish and review listings and let members contact each other;
  • keep Marktgram safe: review listings, handle reports, prevent fraud and abuse;
  • process payments for paid options such as Marktgram Select, when they are offered;
  • send service e-mails such as sign-in confirmation and password reset;
  • send news and offers only if you opted in to marketing.

Legal basis (GDPR)

Performance of the contract with you (account, listings, messages), our legitimate interest in a safe and working service (security, moderation, logs), your consent (marketing, optional buyer-profile sharing) and legal obligations. You can withdraw consent at any time.

Who receives your data

Information you publish in a listing is public. Your phone number and e-mail address appear only if you choose to publish them. We do not sell personal data. We use service providers who process data on our behalf:

  • Supabase: database, authentication and file storage.
  • Our website host and its infrastructure provider: serving the site.
  • Google: map display and city search (Google Maps Platform) and web fonts. Google receives your IP address and the search text when these features are used.
  • GeoNames: city data used for search suggestions.
  • Stripe: card payments for paid options, when enabled. We never see or store your card number.
  • An e-mail delivery provider: service and, if you opted in, marketing e-mails.

International transfers

Some providers are located outside Switzerland and the EU/EEA. Where this is the case we rely on adequacy decisions or standard contractual clauses.

How long we keep data

We keep account data while your account exists. Listings and photos are kept while they are live and for a limited time afterwards. Messages are kept as long as the conversation exists. Records that the law requires us to keep, for example payment records, are kept for the legally required period. When you ask us to delete your account we delete or anonymise your data unless we must keep it by law.

Your rights

You can ask for access to your data, correction, deletion, restriction, a portable copy, and you can object to processing. You can withdraw consent at any time. You have the right to complain to a data protection authority: in Switzerland the Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner (FDPIC), in the EU the authority of your country. Write to the contact address below to use your rights.

Age

Marktgram is for people aged 18 and over.

Changes

We will update this page when the service or the law changes. The date at the top shows the latest version.
